Whether you’re dealing with stress from your career, overwhelmed by your day-to-day commitments or need to address a specific issue, having a space to talk through your concerns and express how you feel without judgement can help.
We will work collaboratively to identify the heart of the issues you’re facing. Together we‘ll make sense of your challenges as we explore what is meaningful and of value to you. As we develop strategies to help relieve your distress, we will explore ways to build on your strengths and personal qualities to create meaningful and desired change.
I work with people experiencing difficulties in one or more areas of their life:
- Stress, anxiety and depression
- Self-esteem and self-confidence
- Life changes and transitions
- Workplace, career and study
- Communication and assertiveness
- Family and relationships
- Grief and loss
I also work with people looking to develop their resilience and experience personal growth to effect positive change in their life.
We’ll use a range of evidence-based models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches, Emotion Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology approaches.
While I draw on a number of approaches, each client is unique and our sessions are tailored to your circumstances and needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the reasons for seeing a psychologist?
Everyone experiences stress at times in their life and while often we’re able to move forward without any significant impact, sometimes we have challenges that are difficult to overcome alone. At those times it can be helpful to seek help from a psychologist to gain a different perspective on your challenges and how to overcome them.
While these situations differ for each person, it can be helpful to know some of the general reasons why someone may see a psychologist. This post outlines a few of those reasons and the ways in which a psychologist can help.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
You do not need a referral to make an appointment at Dove Psychology.
However, you may be able to receive Medicare rebates if you’ve been given a Mental Health Treatment Plan by your doctor. This provides a partial rebate towards each therapy session, for up to ten sessions within a calendar year.
You will need to make an appointment with your GP who will assess if you are eligible, and then bring a copy of your Mental Health Treatment Plan with you to your first appointment.
If you have private health insurance with extras cover you may also be eligible for a partial rebate. Check your policy or contact your private health provider to find out more.
What should I expect during my first session?
During your first appointment we will go through your reasons for seeking counselling, any challenges you may currently be facing as well as any relevant background information.
Together we will review what you’d like to get out of your sessions, and from here we’ll discuss how we will work together to best help you meet your goals.
How long do sessions run for and how many sessions will I need?
Sessions run for approximately 50 minutes.
Some people may only need a few sessions to work through a specific area of focus. Others may have several deeper concerns that we will work through over a longer period of time. We’ll discuss frequency and therapy process together during your initial session and we’ll continue to review this as you work towards your goals.
When are appointments available?
Appointments are currently available Monday through Friday, either in-person at my clinic in South Yarra, or online as appropriate.
How are sessions delivered?
In-person and online sessions are available.
How do I pay for my session?
Payment is made at the end of each session and all major forms of payment are accepted, including cash, debit card, credit card or electronic funds transfer (Eftpos).
What if I need to cancel a session?
If you need to cancel or postpone a session it is requested that you provide at least 24 hours notice so that other clients may be offered that appointment. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time, the full session fee is payable (please note in this circumstance rebates are not available).
